THE MEANING OF THE WORD "ISLAM"

Words, in the Arabic language, are derived from root letters. The root letters for the word Islam are Seen-Laam-Meem (S-L-M).

Here are some words derived from these root letters.

1- SALIMA: This word is used in aya (2:71) as musallamatulla shiatafeeha, in the context of the sacrificial cow, and it means free of fault.

2- SALAAM: Salaam means security / protection from any evil of any kind.

3-ASSAULLAMU: Assullamu is a stair, meaning a secure, and dependable way of reaching a height.

4-ASSILMU: Assilmu is a peaceful person, one who lives in peace and lets others live in peace.

5-ASSILMU WASSALAAMU: Assilmu wassalaamu means surrender, obedience, bow down etc.

6-QAALU SALAAMAN: This means people do not say vulgar things, and use moderation.

7-ISTALAMAZ ZAR’O: This means that the farms have started giving fruit, hence it means that the struggle has given fruit.

8-ASSALIMATU: This means a beautifully structured woman, hence it means beauty. Islam is not the name of a thing. It is a way of life (DEEN). And this name for a way of life embodies all these meanings coming from the root letters Seen-Laam-Meem.
